18th Century Rosewood & Brass Games table

This Rosewood and brass Games Table required extensive repairs and some replacement pieces making for it. The centre column was infested with woodworm. The veneer had to be removed as in tact as possible. The mechanically unsound areas of the core needed to be removed and new wood spliced in its place. The whole column was then re-veneered with the original veneer. The original finish was kept intact.

The legs were additions and needed to be replaced with more a more appropriate form to include brass stringing. The core was made of Beech and veneered with Rosewood.A brass star was made identical to the originals and placed on the face of the pedestal base. A circle of brass was cut to replace that which was missing..Brass scrollwork on the top had become loose and was lifting proud of the veneer. This had to be lifted, cleaned and replaced. The finish required extensive gentle cleaning,, reviving and then rewaxing.
